Barbaric Beauty Ludwigsburg
In July we play our progamme Barbaric Beauty during the Scholossfestspiele in Ludwigsburg . With violinist Miloš Valent we are zooming in on Telemann's Polish style, inspired by the folk music Telemann heard during his travels. Two days before we play, as always, different Kids Only concerts. About 250 children will attend these concerts in Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh.

Confessions
The concept ‘Confessions’ consists of Youtube-videos combined with melancholic songs and the sound of a baroque orchestra. HBS is working together with composer Nico Muhly and singer-songwriter Teitur. Curious about the result? Come to the concert in Eindhoven!

HBS meets Eric Vloeimans
In dit programma vloeit barokmuziek samen met jazz! Tijdens dit avontuurlijke concert gaan de musici van Holland Baroque Society het muzikale gesprek aan met trompettist en jazzvirtuoos Eric Vloeimans. Met zijn lyrische spel vol warmte, souplesse en gevoel voor traditie is hij de ideale partner voor een barokensemble dat graag nieuwe terreinen verkent. "Of het nou pop is of jazz, dat maakt helemaal niks meer uit. Er kan er maar een de beste zijn en in Nederland is dat zonder twijfel Eric Vloeimans", aldus de Gelderlander. Nu dus geen pop, maar barok. In de wereld van de oude muziek valt Eric Vloeimans van de ene verbazing in de andere: Thomas Tallis, Johan Christoph Bach en ja uiteindelijk ook de grote Bach zelf. Vloeimans komt op plekken waarvan hij het bestaan niet had durven vermoeden.
Op zaterdag 11 mei vindt een concert plaats in Natuurmuseum Fryslân in Leeuwarden en de dag erna beginnen de opnames; na de zomer verschijnt de CD in de schappen! We houden u natuurlijk op de hoogte maar u kunt zich hier ook alvast op de CD inschrijven.

Uitgave origineel handschrift Pergolesi
The manuscript of the Stabat Mater of Pergolesi is preserved in the Benedictine Abbey of Montecassino in Italy and accessible with difficulty. Edition Walhall presents the first facsimile edition of the autograph.
Tineke Steenbrink, one of the founders of Holland Baroque Society wrote in her introduction: “ The great differences in the modern printed edition raise many questions that can possibly be answered through the study of the facsimile.” Thus, experts will finally be able to deal with the many ambiguous passages, the concluding measures of the Amen fugue for example.
Holland Baroque Society played the Stabat Mater last year with these new insights.

Matthäus Passion
Holland Baroque Society ventures to the great Dutch tradition of the annual St. Matthew Passion. In collaboration with Consensus Vocalis, led by Klaas Stok and Helmonds Vocaal Ensemble, Helmonds Kamerkoor & Nuove Musiche, led by Jeroen Felix we play one of the most touching works of the baroque era. We do not know if it will be a tradition for HBS, but we’re looking forward to perform this wonderful work.

For our next programme, Holland Baroque Society invites not one artistic director, but a complete string quartet: Quatuor Mosaïques. This results in a confrontation between an old world baroque orchestra and a modern string quartet. An encounter which examines the transition between baroque and classicism.

HBS works together with the Belgian accordionist Tuur Florizoone during the next project. He has quickly become one of the most beloved musicians of Flanders. With great flair and irresistible stage presence he captures his audience. We look forward to this collaboration.

Barbaric Beauty Continues
Binnenkort spelen we het programma Barbaric Beauty weer. Natuurlijk met de u wel bekende muziek van onze cd, maar ook met nieuw repertoire uit 18e eeuwse notitieboeken: Melodieën opgeschreven door de Poolse Turk Wojciech Bobowski alias Ali Ufki en ‘Collectie Speelmuziek’, dansante muziek, kleurrijk en vol van emotie, opgeschreven door Nederlandse violisten (wereldprimeur).
Mis het niet en kom luisteren op 5 oktober in Utrecht of op 7 oktober in Amsterdam.

Diapason d'Or for Vivaldi CD!
We are thrilled to have received our first Diapason d'Or for the CD with violin concertos of Vivaldi. Many thanks to Rachel Podger for her inspiring and beautiful performance and to Jared Sacks, Channel Classics, who made a beautiful recording again.
HBS and Eric Vloeimans
After two concerts this summer Holland Baroque Society plays with Eric Vloeimans again on Wednesday, September 5th. This time on the City Festival in Zwolle (NL) at the beautiful Thorbeckegracht. For a preview you can see this movie, which was made at Jazz Middelheim in Antwerp (B).

Fonds Podiumkunsten honoreert aanvraag Holland Baroque Society
Op 1 augustus werden de toekenningen van de meerjarige subsidies door het Fonds Podiumkunsten bekendgemaakt. Holland Baroque Society betreurt de ontzagwekkende kaalslag in de Nederlandse cultuursector die daaruit spreekt enorm. Op een plek waar jong en oud, amateur en professional samen muziek maken ontstaat een rijke culturele omgeving die voedt en inspireert. De beslissing van het kabinet om te korten op cultuur vervlakt het aanbod en dat is ongezond voor zowel makers als publiek.
Alles hierboven laat natuurlijk onverlet dat HBS erg ingenomen is met het positieve advies voor ons eigen ensemble. HBS kan zich nu op een ruimere manier presenteren, dromen nastreven en meer middelen inzetten om te laten zien wat wij als ensemble voor ogen hebben.
In haar korte bestaan heeft Holland Baroque Society altijd met minimale middelen projecten en concerten moeten realiseren en is daar succesvol in gebleken. Daar worden we nu voor beloond. Het Fonds spreekt van “sprankelende” plannen, “gedegen kennis van de historische uitvoeringspraktijk” en een “frisse benaderingswijze van het fenomeen concert.” Verder is “het vakmanschap van de musici van de Holland Baroque Society van hoog niveau” en communiceert het ensemble “op een natuurlijke wijze met het publiek; de zeggingskracht van de concerten is zeer hoog.” Bovendien “kent het gehele werk van HBS een hoge mate van oorspronkelijkheid”, aldus het Fonds.
We zijn trots en blij. We kunnen een grote stap verder zetten nu we de kans krijgen te laten zien waar we als barokorkest voor staan; spelen op het hoogste niveau, met een afwisselende programmering.

Nieuwe CD "La Cetra" al getipt bij Opium
Vanaf 3 mei ligt onze nieuwe dubbel-CD in de schappen: "La Cetra", met alle 12 concerten uit de gelijknamige bundel van Antonio Vivaldi. En enkele dagen geleden al tipte Roland Kieft de CD in Opium Radio. Heeft u de uitzending gemist? Volg dan deze link en luister vanaf 01.05.45.
Voor de totstandkoming van deze CD werkte HBS wederom samen met Rachel Podger en de CD verschijnt weer bij het label Channel Classics Records. The project continues in a few days: on April 30th we will play with Eric Vloeimans in Amman (Jordan) and on the first of May in Beirut (Lebanon). During Memorial Day on May 4th, we play a concert with Eric in the Dom Church of Utrecht (NL).
