Song of Songs
Artistic Direction: Andreas Arend, lute
Soprano: Celine Scheen
Bass: Marek Rzepka (3 and 5 November), Harry van der Kamp (26 and 27 November)
The love between Solomon and his bride is praised in the Song of Songs, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for composers of the seventeenth century. It is in this music that the true contents of these mysterious texts is exposed. Judge for yourself: is it pure eroticism or sacred devotion? Holland Baroque Society is under the direction of lute player Andreas Arend, specialist in this repertoire.
The concert programme includes various memorable works, such as the cantata Ich suchte des Nachts by Buxtehude, several pieces by Palestrina and Nachdem ich lag in meinem öden Bette by Schütz. Also diverse instrumental pieces by Buxtehude, Schein and Becker will be heard.
