HBS meets Vivaldi
Artistic Direction: Rachel Podger, violin
Holland Baroque Society plays Vivaldi; this time his violin concertos entitled La Cetra, meaning ‘the lyre’. They were published in Amsterdam in 1727. HBS will record the complete twelve concertos on CD.
Soloist is the British top violinist and favourite of the audience Rachel Podger, with whom Holland Baroque Society gave very successful and adventurous concerts before. Vivaldi’s violin concertos ever sound bouncing with life and burst with energy. It is as if the ink with which they were written is barely dry. Vivaldi’s music was very popular in the eighteenth century and at that time his scores were already spread all over Europe, from Spain to Lapland. Even the French king Louis the Fifteenth requested it to be played. Apart from the violin concertos, you can listen to our lute player Daniele Caminiti, who will be performing Vivaldi’s famous lute concerto in D major. This beautiful miniature reveals the most important characteristics of the lute: seductiveness and a very intimate sound.
Furthermore, HBS will be playing a world-famous baroque hit, the Adagio by Albinoni - or at least that is what was thought. When it became clear that the piece was a neobaroque composition from the twentieth century, it lost its popularity. Undeservedly, since there should always be room for beautiful music.
