Telemann mastered the French and Italians styles perfectly. With the programme “Barbaric Beauty” HBS shows a different side of him: we are zooming in on Telemann’s Polish style. At least, that is how Telemann himself characterised the form he developed on the basis of music he discovered in the border region between Poland and Hungary. Telemann was only 25 years old when he heard these sounds for the first time. They would be his inspiration for the rest of his life. The Rostock manuscript is filled with dances from his pen.

Next to Telemann’s music, HBS will be performing pieces from the Melodiarium manuscript (1720), a collection of dances and songs from Slovakia, collected and commissioned by Duchess Anna Szirmay-Keczer. With “Barbaric Beauty”, HBS will delight you with moments of barbarian beauty, a beauty which has given Telemann so much inspiration.
